College Station, Tx – The Governor of Yucatan, Rolando Rodrigo Zapata Bello, visits Texas A&M University with the objective to formalize the work that has been developed between TAMU and SIIDETEY and that as a result of the past visit to Yucatan, will derive in specific projects in energy, coast dynamics, aquifers, early warning systems, logistics, communications, and education.

The Yucatan State Goverment has the firm purpose to consolidate the System of Research, Innovation, and Technological Development of the State of Yucatan (SIIDETEY) through investment in research projects, specialized infrastructure, increase the offer of graduate courses, human resources formation, and the creation of working networks between research groups with a common focus. Moreover, these efforts will promote the State as a regional pole for high-level human resource formation based on a high quality academic offer as well as an ambitious program of national and international promotion.

Dr. Medina-Cetina introduces the Yucatan Initiative, and the research faculty teams present the proposed research projects in the different areas of interest and the next phases of the collaboration.

After the project presentations, another meeting is held to discuss the topic on ¨Internet II¨presented by Dr. Pierce Cantrell, Professor in the Department of Computational and Electrical Engineering, and Dr Walt Magnussen, Director of the Advanced Telecommunications and Learning Technologies Academy. Another meeting took place on Energy Industry, led by Dr. Medina-Cetina and John Allen, Retired Executive from GE in which various topics were approached regarding the challenges of the energy industry in Mexico, the oil and gas status, and the possible proposals to improve the integrity of the natural environments and the development of an energy supply chain.
